Awards season is approaching and in
particular the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2016.
The 6th edition of MAMA will be held
at The Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg, South Africa on
Saturday 22 October 2016.
Kenya’s high flying Afro-pop band
have bagged two nominations, and will be hoping to at least bring one of the
elusive gongs back home.
The group’s first nomination comes
in the Best Group Category, where they will battle it out with Mi
Casa (South Africa), Navy Kenzo(Tanzania), R2bees (Ghana), and Toofan
(Togo).

They have also been nominated
for Best Collaboration in partnership with Absolut for the hit,
‘Unconditionally Bae’ featuring Tanzania’s Ali Kiba.
They face stiff competition
from Patoranking feat. Sarkodie – “No Kissing” (Nigeria/Ghana), AKA
feat. Burna Boy, Khuli Chana & Yanga – “Baddest” (South
Africa/Nigeria), DJ Maphorisa feat. Wizkid & DJ Bucks – “Soweto Baby”
(South Africa/Nigeria), and Nasty C feat. Davido, Cassper – “Juice Back Remix”
(Nigeria/South Africa).
No other Kenyan has been nominated.
The Daily Show host Trevor Noah has been confirmed as host of the
live two-hour awards show.
“I’m a huge fan of African music and
achievement, and it’s going to be a massive pleasure celebrating them both at
the MTV Africa Music Awards 2016 in my own home town of Johannesburg,” Noah
said in a statement.
